Alane Weber's Full Story

Alane Weber

Alane Weber was born and raised in the Brenner family in San Mateo, California. At a very early age, she was inspired by her mother's great love of gardens. By the time she was a toddler, Alane had tasted just about every plant, including a few snails, in her mother's extensive garden. Growing herbs and flowers from seed has been an obsession her entire life, and while other kids were selling lemonade, Alane was selling her own–grown herb plants.

She was interested in biology and botany in high school, and worked for local nurseries before furthering her horticultural education at College of San Mateo, Sonoma State and Humboldt State Universities. During this time, she also worked at Peter's and Wilson's Nursery in Millbrae, and ran a private gardening service. Currently, Alane is furthering her education by obtaining an AA degree in Nursery Management and Landscape Design. At the same time, she is operating a garden consulting business specifically focused on sustainable design using permaculture principles and non–toxic, organic products.

Alane teaches composting and sustainable gardening techniques in the Master Composter Program. She is an inspiring teacher as evidenced by the Master Composter testimonials. She lectures throughout the County at garden clubs and local events, and can be seen frequently on television. She is know locally as "the worm lady" because of her extensive practical experience with compost worms and her particular love and appreciation for those unsung critter heroes of our soil.
