In 2008, California statutes changed the method of calculating disposal rates.
The change measures disposal on a per capita (per person) basis, using a calculated formula to arrive at a per day, per person, target weight amount, measured in pounds per day (PPD). There are two areas of reporting: one for residents, and one for persons in commercial settings. The new method was applied beginning with 2007 reporting.
